Julie-Kay Dracup | Athlete

Julie-Kay Dracup (nee Lang) began her two-year college career in September 1990 and, to this day, is one of very few students in the history of Loyalist College to compete as a quadruple-sport athlete. Hailing from Stirling, Ontario, Julie-Kay was a competitive athlete with excellent leadership skills. She thrived both individually as a cross-country runner and singles badminton player and in a team setting on the women’s outdoor and indoor soccer teams.

In her rookie season, Julie-Kay was a dominate force on the cross-country course, handily winning a gold medal at the 1990-91 OCAA Cross-Country Provincial Championships with a time of 18:53.52, helping to push her team to a silver medal finish. That same season, she was named the women’s outdoor soccer team MVP for her ability to control each match, both with her physical and mental abilities on the field. Additionally, Julie-Kay was named overall Female Athlete of the Year, being recognized for her all-around incredible athleticism and play, as a multi-sport student athlete.

On track to defend her provincial title in her second year, Julie-Kay was faced with a tough decision, having the cross-country championships land on the same day as the soccer team’s playoff game. Showing her commitment and dedication as a teammate, Julie-Kay opted to compete with her team in a quest for a soccer playoff spot, thus relinquishing the opportunity to add further individual accolades, to battle alongside her teammates.

Julie-Kay has cemented herself in history as one of the most dynamic female athletes to have ever worn the Lancer logo.
