Men's Basketball Stand Outs Receive League Accolades

Lancer standouts Angelo Sarsonas and DJ Atkinson were awarded OCAA men's basketball league accolades at the 2018-19 Championship banquet in Barrie Thursday morning.

Sarsonas, a second year guard, was named an East Division 1st Team All Star while Atkinson was recognized as a member of the East Division All Rookie Team.

Sarsonas has been an integral part of his team from day one and proven himself to be among the best ball handlers in the league. Combined with his impressive shooting abilities, Sarsonas led the Lancers in scoring with 271 total points and averaged 13.3 points per game. Physical skills aside, his contributions to the team go far and beyond the numbers on the stats sheet. His vision and ability to control the court are unique and add a whole other dimension to his game. As a leader both on and off the court, Sarsonas plays every second of a game with the same intensity and focus, regardless of the score.

DJ Atkinson made an immediate impact on his team and around the league in his rookie season. The 6'3 guard/forward from Toronto brings with him physicality, talent and natural athleticism that makes him a dominant force on the court.  Recording his first 20-point game in only his second regular season appearance, Atkinson was in the top 3 in scoring on his team and was consistently among the game high scorers for much of the season. Atkinson's ability to drive to the basket or shoot from the perimeter made him an offensive threat while his speed, athleticism and intelligence gave his defenders a challenge on the other end of the court.
