LANCERS OUT OF PLAYOFF CONTENTION

LANCERS OUT OF PLAYOFF CONTENTION

It came down to the final week of regular season play, but the men's volleyball team is eliminated from the post season.

The Lancers were neck and neck with the Fleming Knights with both teams having 2 games left to play in the season. The Lancers dropped a tough 3-0 decision to the first place Georgian Grizzlies (25-17, 25-14, 25-22) at home that lowered their season record to 3-14 while the Knights beat the 9th place Durham Lords 3-2 to improve to 5-12. The win solidified the Knights position in playoffs and dropped the Lancers into 8th place and out of contention.

The teams squared off in what could have been a tie breaking game, but the cards were already dealt. The Lancers fought a good fight but ultimately, the Knights took the game in straight sets to defeat the Lancers 25-21, 26-24 and 25-9.

Third year Lancer Alex Cox lead his team in scoring with 9 kills while first year player Caleb Seguin added 5 kills of his own.

Sequin, a 6'4 outside hitter, finishes the season as the team's leading scorer with 203 points followed closely by 3rd year veteran Josh Roberts who recorded 194 points.

With the exception of the first place Grizzlies, the Lancers took a set off every team in the league throughout the season showing their grit and determination. Despite being undersized, the Lancers battled hard and showed huge improvements from September to the end of the season.

Graduating athletes Alex Cox, Matt Bridgeland and Josh Roberts have been integral parts of the team for three year and have been instrumental in the rise of the program. Not only have the trio been leaders on the court, they've become incredible ambassadors of the Lancers on campus and in the community who will be missed as the team moves forward.

Good luck to all graduating athletes in future endeavors, and congratulations to all coaches and players on a hard fought season.
