LANCERS SWEEP COLTS TO START SEASON

LANCERS SWEEP COLTS TO START SEASON

The men's volleyball took a commmanding 3 set victory from the Centennial Colts in their home opener on Saturday.

The Lancers got off to a bit of a slow start before finding their footing mid way through the first set. Having trailed by 5 early on, the Lancers tied the Colts at the 12 point mark and kept the game within 2 right up to the end when the home team pulled ahead to take the set 25-23.

The Lancers maintained control of the next two matches and rolled to 25-17 and 25-21 wins to take the game 3 sets to 0.

With only four returning players in the line up, the Lancers are sporting a much different look than that of the 2018-19 season. Newcomer Riley Litwiller showed off a dynamite serve, recording 6 aces, 6 kills and an ace in his first college match. The 5'11 outside hitter brings a wealth of talent and game sense from a decorated career in the OVA.

Another new face for the Lancers, but no stranger to the league is setter, Savino Marques. Marques spent his first year at Seneca College where he was named OCAA Men's Volleyball Rookie of the Year. Now in his first year at Loyalist, Marques' setting abilities were on full display in his team's first match. Marques' recorded 22 assists and 3 aces in the match, but his ability to control the game is what truly makes him stand out.

Returning players Trevor Fortier and Caleb Sequin looked strong in the first outing of their second year. The duo balanced the offence from opposite sides of the court and combined for 14 kills, 5 aces and a block.

The Lancers travel to Oshawa on Thursday October 24th to take on the Durham Lords.
