LANCERS RECEIVE LEAGUE RECOGNITION

Two female Lancer basketball players have received league accolades after their performances throughout the 2018/19 season.

First year standout Kate Raso was named to the OCAA East Division All Rookie team while teammate Brittany Mason was dubbed a 2nd Team East Division All Star at the OCAA Provincial Championship banquet in Kingston on Wednesday night.

Raso, a student of the Registered Nursing program led her team in scoring with 231 points and 44 steals, putting her among the top scoring rookies in the league. A tough player that competes with intensity, speed and intelligence, Raso turned in a season high performance against the Centennial Colts in the second half of the season where she scored an impressive 26 points.

The 5'6 guard from Welland Ontario proved time and time again to be an instrumental part of the Lancer team this season. Raso stepped into an instant leadership role and earned herself the respect and admiration of her teammates, opponents and coaches across the league.

Mason, a second year Lancer and fellow nursing student had an all star season in her own right. Just behind Raso in scoring with 228 points, Mason led the team with 158 rebounds and was ranked top three in the OCAA with 24 blocks on the season.

As a returning player, Mason provided experience, leadership and skill to the young Lancer team. Her ability to come up with big plays at the basket was a huge asset to her squad while her physicality at both ends of the court brought intensity to every game. A true teammate through and through, Mason led by example and was among the top scorers in nearly every game of the season.

Congratulations to both athletes on a terrific season!
