ATHLETES OF THE WEEK | SUURDT & FIELDING

Hot of a bronze medal win over the weekend, two members of the Loyalist Lancers women's rugby team have been named Freshii Athletes of the Week.

Anna Suurdt and Sarah Fielding both played integral roles in their team's success throughout the season but were especially impactful at the OCAA Provincial Championships on Saturday, October 28th. In the final game of the day, with a Bronze medal on the line, Fielding and Suurt both stepped up and gave everything they had to push their team to victory over the Algonquin Wolves. 

Fielding made an impressive drive in the first half to tie the game and, after a successful convert, take the lead. She was dominant at both ends of the field; whether fending off multiple Wolves players to break through the defence or making crowd-pleasing tackles, Fielding's power, grit and sheer determination was undeniable. 

When the Wolves answered back with their second try of the match, Suurdt came through with a huge run in the final moments of the game to push her team to a 12-10 victory to win the medal. With explosive speed and great tackling abilities, Suurdt's dynamic skill set coupled with her no-quit attitude made her a very real threat on the wing. For her efforts and impressive play, Surrdt was named a Championship All-Star.
