ROBINSON NAMED NEW WOMEN'S RUGBY 7S COACH

Loyalist College's Director of Athletics & Recreation, Cristy Latham, and the entire Loyalist Lancers organization are thrilled to announce the appointment of Jo Anne Robinson as the new Head Coach of the women's rugby 7s team after a mutual parting of ways with former coach, Ken Fitzgerald after 12 years with the program.

Robinson's journey with the Loyalist Lancers program has been nothing short of exceptional. Having served as an assistant coach for the past six seasons, her dedication and passion for the sport have set her apart. As the first female rugby Head Coach in Loyalist College history, Robinson is paving the way for more opportunities for women in coaching.

Cristy Latham expressed her enthusiasm for Robinson's promotion, stating, "We are delighted to see Jo take on this significant role. Her commitment to the team and her extensive experience within the program make her the perfect fit for the position. We believe that her leadership will not only continue the team's success but also inspire future generations of athletes."

Reflecting on her new role, Robinson shared, "I am honoured and excited to continue building the Lancers' 7s rugby program with this team of talented athletes. I am committed to creating a supportive and inclusive environment where every player feels valued, empowered, and challenged to reach their full potential on and off the pitch."

As the Director of Rugby with the Belleville Bulldogs Rugby Club and Head Coach of the U14 team, Robinson has played a major role in increasing participation numbers locally, particularly on the female side, and has elevated the game in many ways.

In 2017, she was named Female Club Coach of the Year by Rugby Ontario after leading the Bulldogs U16 Girls to the RO Cup Championships and winning the first of 2 OFSAA Gold medals with the Bayside Red Devils. In 2018, Robinson was named Female Coach of the Year by Rugby Canada where she was described as a visionary who strives to understand and respect each and every player.

The Loyalist Lancers organization is confident that Robinson's strategic vision, coupled with her deep understanding of team dynamics, will propel the rugby program to new heights. With her at the helm, the Lancers are gearing up for an exciting chapter in their history.

The entire Loyalist College community extends its congratulations to Robinson on this well-deserved achievement and looks forward to witnessing the continued success of the Lancers under her leadership.
