LANCERS BATTLE TO TIE WITH COLTS

LANCERS BATTLE TO TIE WITH COLTS

Lancers turned in their best and most complete game of the season Tuesday night against the Centennial Colts, keeping their shape and playing well on both sides of the ball for the full 90 minutes

In a colourful first half that saw both sides create good scoring opportunities, the Lancers got unlucky on a couple chances, ending the half tied 0-0.

In the second half Centennial had the wind and scored first at the 56 minute mark on a long range powerful strike that flew into the net.

Undaunted, the Lancers immediately marched back and tied the score within a minute. It was a repeat of last Tuesday's goal against Fleming with Rachel Cole (Cobourg, ON) setting up Lancer Athlete of the Week, Taylor Wightman (Belleville, ON) for the goal. Wightman took the pass, beat her defender and sent a left footed strike into the bottom left corner of the goal.

This sent Lancers coach Rob Terry on a celebratory sprint down the sidelines!

Facing a strong wind and a pushing the Colts, the Lancers dug in and held their ground to see out the game and claim a well earned point on the road.

Coach Rob Terry's enthusiasm and passion for the sport was on full display during the game and transferred into his team. "I was really proud of the girls for their efforts tonight. We've got a number of injuries that we're dealing with right now so we were playing with smaller roster.  Players stepped up and everyone battled really hard, it was really great to see."

The women's soccer team gets back to their home field Saturday when they host the Algonquin Thunder at 1pm.
