LANCERS FALL 2-1 TO THUNDER

The Lancers lost a hard fought battle against the Algonquin Thunder at home on Saturday.

Coming off a well played tie against the Centennial Colts on the road earlier in the week, the Lancers took the field with newfound confidence and agression. The game started off with the Lancers playing impeccable defence that resulted in a scoreless game through the first 20 minutes. First year keeper Courtney Bolch made a number of unbelievable saves to keep the Thunder's offense at bay until Hailey Martin buried one to give the visiting team the go-ahead. Less than 7 miuntes later, second year Lancer & team leading scorer, Taylor Wightman recorded her third goal of the season while battling two Thunder defenders to make it a 1-1 game. First year Lancers Emily Osmond and Rachel Cole continued to drive the team with smart plays and their signature no-fear style of play, while second year athletes Emily Asante and Nadine Adair's leadership and in-game knowledge helped the young Lancer team remain collected throughout the exciting first half.

Heading into the second half of the game, the Lancers continued to play great soccer at both ends of the field. They created opporunities in the offensive zone and came through in a big way on defence to shut down the Thunder's offense.

After a minor injury that sidelined Bolch for a brief period of time, the Thunder recorded their second goal of the game to take a 2-1 lead over the Lancers. With only 10 minutes left to go in the half, the Lancers were unable to reciprocate and fell to the division leading, Algonquin Thunder.

The Lancer play host to the 4-0 Seneca Sting on Wednesday at 6pm, followed by a men's rugby match against the Durham Lords at 8pm.
