LANCERS SHOWING IMPROVEMENT IN 2019

Friday Night Lights vs George Brown Huskies

The Lancers opened the 2019 season in a big way as Loyalist College held their 2nd annual Friday Night Lights celebration. The festivities brought together the whole community for a fun filled evening which included your Lancers battle the George Brown Huskies, various inflatable games, a free barbecue and see a vibrant fireworks display at the end of the night. 

With all of the fun and excitement with Friday Night Lights, the Lancers couldn't overcome their Toronto rival with a 4-1 defeat. The Huskies opened the scoring early with two goals in the first half and continued their momentum into the second half with adding a pair more. The lone Lancer goal came from Alyssa Prinzen from the penalty marker. Local talent Nicole Woodcock was incredible in net with an impressive 22 saves in the game.

Lancers @ St. Lawrence Vikings

In their second game of the season the Lancers made the trip to Kingston to face off against the St. Lawrence Vikings. The Lancers came away with a 3-3 draw vs the Vikings, in which they put forth a far better effort and a complete game for the full 90 minutes.

In an exciting first half of play, we saw both the Lancers and the Vikings score a pair of goals. The Vikings opened the scoring early in the forth minute. Within 10 minutes the Lancers responded with a remarkable strike from Ashley MacDonald, her first goal of the season. Shortly, after the Vikings added another goal to keep the lead 2-1. The Lancers continue to put pressure on the Vikings and finally broke through with a beautiful goal from Ella Bannon in the 23rd minute.

With the game tied 2-2 in the second half, both teams put on the throttle and came out battling strong. The Lancers were the first to break through with an incredible finish by Rachel Cole in the 73rd minute. The Vikings did not go away and added a late goal to deprive the Lancers of their first win of the season. 

Lancers @ Centennial Colts

In the third game of the season the Colts got the better of the Lancers with a 5-1 victory. The Lancers couldn't keep up with the Colts as they tailed four first half goals. The second half is where the Lancers scored their lone goal which was by Autumn Hatherly in the 55th minute.

Next Match

The Lancers play host to the 3-0 Algonquin Thunder on Saturday, September 21 at 6pm, the game will follow the women's rugby 7's tournament.
