LANCERS EARN FIRST WIN

LANCERS EARN FIRST WIN

The Lancer broke their winless streak after an excellent team effort on the road against the Sault College Cougars.

Second year veteran Ella Bannon opened the scoring for the Lancers with a goal off a corner kick to take an early 1-0 lead only 8 minutes in. A textbook series of passes set up fellow veteran Ashley MacDonald who made no mistake with the ball and absolutely buried it into the back of the net. Lancer Athlete of the Week Amy Vieira made it a trifecta in the first half with a mid range shot that put the Lancers up 3-0 after 15 minutes.

The Cougars scored on a penalty kick as the result of a controversial hand ball call, making it a 3-1 game at the half.

The Lancers controlled the second half by being patient with the ball, maintaining possessions with many passes, and good attacking positioning.

The Cougars scored their second of the match on a turnover to make it a 1 goal game at the 60 minute mark. Second year Lancer Rachel Cole secured the win with a long range shot high into the goal with 15 minutes left to play. Maintaining focus and aggression, the Lancers fought hard and created scoring opportunities right up to the final whistle and earring themselves a 4-2 victory over the Cougars.

Head Coach Rob Terry is happy to see the work his team's been doing in practices show through in the game. "We had practiced our offensive sets and a corner kick designed for the Cougars and it paid off. The team trained well this week which translated into a really well played game today" said Coach Terry. " I'm really proud of the girls."

The Lancers play part two of their road trip Sunday when they take on the Cambrian Golden Shield in Sudbury.
