LANCERS TAKE 3-1 VICTORY OVER SAULT COUGARS

The Lancers came out on top of a 3-1 decision over the Sault Cougars in the team's final game of the year on Sunday October 16.

Before the game began, 11 graduating athletes were recognized for their commitment and dedication to the Loyalist Lancers Women's Soccer program. These athletes are shining examples of what it takes to be a successful student-athlete and upon graduation in June, we'll welcome them into their next chapter as alumni. Congratulations Emily Postma, Kelsey Lawrence, Hannah Cole, Emily Mealing, Mackenzie Atkinson, Emma Elson, Jenna-Mae Oickle, Erin Cassibo, Gabrielle Boucher, Brooke Balson and Alley Osmond.

With the game underway, the Lancers showed off great defence throughout the entire 90 minutes and dominant offensively, outscoring the visiting Cougars 17-7.

Second year player Kennedy Bardawill opened the scoring with her first of the night to give the Lancers a 1-0 lead until well into the second half. Lancer goal keeper Emily Mealing turned in another astounding performance that included an incredible save off a controversial penalty kick. The Cougars got on the board in the 61st minute of the game with a well placed corner kick that had the wind in it's favor and found the top corner of the Lancer net to even the score at 1.

Playing with a new level of toughness and aggression, the Lancers added two more goals before the final whistle. Bardawill netted the game winner and her second of the game to give the Lancers the go-ahead. First year Lancer Kelsey Lawrence followed suit and showed the importance of patience and focus after fighting through Sault defence and beating the keeper in extra time to push to a 3-1 final. The win also marks a first career OCAA victory for Intermin Head Coach, Emily Osmond.

Despite finishing the season with a 1-8-1 record, the Lancers showed tremendous improvement over the course of the season and earned mini victories along the way.
