LANCERS FALL 3 STRAIGHT TO GRIZZLIES

The women's volleyball team lost a close 3 set match against the Georgian Grizzlies Friday night to kick off their Northern swing trip.

Having faced off against the Grizzlies in Pre Season action, the Lancers went into the game looking to start a win streak after earning their first victory against the La Cite Coyotes on Oct. 19.

The Lancers got off to a great start in the match, jumping out to an early lead as a result of big blocking and aggressive serving. Both Jillian Hoftyzer and Corrie Calliste- Herry did a great job in the middle of slowing down the Grizzlies offence and closing the blocks pn the outsides.

With the lead exchanging hands many times throughout the game, the Lancers pulled ahead 17-15, forcing the Grizzlies into a time out. Grizzlies responded and came back to regain the lead and move ahead 20-17 and going on to win the set 25-21.

Set two saw first year Lancer Rachel Streekstra take the court, bringing with her a passion and fire that ignited the team. In a similar set to the first, the lead shift back and forth between the two teams before finishing on a 25-22 Grizzlies victory to move the home team ahead 2 sets to 0.

Despite a number of unforced errors by the Lancers, the third set was another close battle that saw the lead exchanges multiple times. The Grizzlies served tough to finish out the game, winning the final set 25-22 and taking the game 3-0.

The Lancers continue their weekend road trip against the Canadore Panthers Saturday at 1 pm in North Bay where they'll look to get back in the win column.

"We played with Georgian tonight but didn't come out on top of the long battles" says Head Coach Dominique Dawes. "We made a lot of unforced errors and need to focus on limiting those when we play Canadore tomorrow."
