LANCERS COMMIT TWO TO VOLLEYBALL PROGRAM

LANCERS COMMIT TWO TO VOLLEYBALL PROGRAM

The Lancers are proud to announce the addition of two talented athletes from Durham Region to the women's volleyball roster for the 2020/2021 season.

Jessica Yantha of Bowmanville, ON and Natalie Hetherington, of Brooklin, ON bring a wealth of knowledge and vast volleyball experience to the young Lancer team.

Yantha, who is currently attending St. Stephens Catholic Secondary School in Bowmanville, started playing volleyball in 2015 as a member of the U14 Durham Attack team and stayed with the program through her U18 year. At 6'0", Yantha adds a strong block to the front row and swings a heavy ball from the outside on offense.

On court talent aside, Yantha is the recipient of Leadership awards from both her high school & club teams, as well as an Award of Excellence from Durham Attack.

Having been accepted to the highly sought after Paramedic program, Yantha was drawn to the uniqueness of Loyalist and the personal connections students are able to create. "I've heard so many amazing things about the people and environment at Loyalist, especially how great the paramedic program is."

Hetherington chose Loyalist for similar reasons, citing the feel of the college as a deciding factor. "I really enjoyed the experience I had when I visited Loyalist, I love the program they offer and the environment."

A fellow veteran of Durham Attack, Hetherington has spent the last 7 years with the club as a setter and defensive specialist where she earned herself three Awards of Excellence from the Ontario Volleyball Association (OVA), a leadership and 2 Achievement of Excellence awards.

Currently at Brooklin High School, 5'4" Hetherington is a talented setter on both the physical and mental side of the position. Her ability to see offensive opporunities for her attackers is complimented by her ability to execute plays with precision and consistency.

Hetherington will be joining the Social Service Worker program in the fall.

Lancer Head Coach Ryan Stoness is excited to add these two high level athletes to his developing program. "We're really focused on building our program up and Jessica and Natalie will be critical pieces of that sucess" he says. While the two are very different athletes, Stoness says they both offer specific skills and abilities that make them the perfect fit for the team. " Jessica's offense and blocking on the right side will be a tremendous addition while Natalie's work ethic, dedication and skills as a setter will make a significantly positive influence."
