LANCERS CONTINUE TO ADD TO 2020 LINEUP

The Lancers are excited to announce the addition of Brighton Matheson and Katie Burns to the women's volleyball program for the 2020-2021 season.

Matheson and Burns join the Lancers from Kingston, ON where they are teammates on the newly formed Kingston Rock Volleyball Club. Combined, these two talented athletes have over 10 years of competitive experience within the Ontario Volleyball Association.

Burns, a 5'6 outside hitter, is a skilled attacker with exceptional defensive abilities. Having been team captain for the Regiopolis Notre Dame Catholic High School team on multiple occasions, Burns contributions to her team go far beyond physical skill. Her positive attitude, work ethic and game sense are only some of the attributes Lancer Head Coach, Ryan Stoness looks forward to adding to his team. "Katie is a passionate and skilled volleyball player who has been well coached on both club and high school teams. I expect she will play a major role in our squad's success next season. "

A true utility player, Matheson adds an element of versatility to the Lancers' growing roster. Her experience as a setter, left side and right side attacker provides countless options and opportunities in every new match-up. Along with playing for Kingston Rock, Matheson is a member of the Frontenac Secondary School team where she was named MVP in 2018; the same year the team won the KASSAA finals.

With a solid foundation of volleyball experience from her 7 years in the club system in Kingson, Matheson values the importance of dynamics within a team, and school. " I chose Loyalist because it was very welcoming - both the girls on the team and Ryan. I also really like the program they offer and the school environment."

Both Burns and Matheson have been accepted into Loyalist's Pre Health Sciences program with the intent to continue on campus and complete their Bachelors of Science in Nursing.

Coach Stoness is pleased with the way his team his shaping up for the 2020 season. " Katie and Brighton are a pair of incredibly talented athletes who will provide stability and experience to our squad. They're great additions to our team and I look forward to coaching them both.
