LANCERS MAKE HISTORY WITH BRONZE MEDAL

The Loyalist Lancers women's volleyball team had a historic weekend, clinching their first-ever medal in the program's history. After falling short in the semi-final against the Humber Hawks, who eventually secured the gold, the Lancers bounced back and defeated the Durham Lords for the third time in the season, claiming the bronze medal.

Their victory was marked by a remarkable comeback after losing the first set 25-20 to the Lords. The Lancers rallied with three consecutive wins, scoring 25-18, 25-22, and 25-19 respectively, showcasing their resilience and determination.

Sierra Scott had a tremendous game marked by stability, consistency, and continuous effort and was awarded the player of the game for her outstanding performance for the Lancers. Additionally, libero Erika Robertson was recognized as a tournament all-star for her exceptional contributions throughout the competition.

Allyson Terwillegar, who was named the 2023-2024 OCAA East Player of the Year and All-Canadian, made a significant impact with 23 points in the game. The middle duo of Alyssa Diemert and Charlie Cudmore also played crucial roles, each contributing 11 points to the team's success.

In the semi-final loss against the Hawks, veteran setter Georgi Williams showcased an incredible performance and was named the Player of the Game. Williams demonstrated exceptional serving, and defensive skills, and executed a quick offense, providing an exciting game for the spectators in attendance.

Director of Athletics & Recreation, Cristy Latham is proud of the team and the effort they put in to get to where they are. "The bronze medal secured by our team stands as a testament to their determination and exceptional talent," says Latham. "Throughout the season, this team has persevered diligently to reach their goals, making this success truly deserved. Their accomplishment is an immense source of pride for our athletic program and the entire Loyalist College community. Congratulations, team!"
