X-COUNTRY TEAM TURNS IN THEIR BEST TEAM PERFORMANCE AT CHAMPIONSHIPS

The Lancer X-country team wrapped up their season at the OCAA Provincial Championships hosted by Conestoga College in Kitchener, Ontario on Saturday, October 28th.

Running on a great course in nearly perfect weather conditions, all 6 Lancers were primed and ready to take on the challenge of the event. The team competed hard and turned in their best overall top-to-bottom team performance of the year, finishing 10th in team results.

First year Lancer Connor Asuncion was, once again, the top runner for the Lancers, finishing the 8k loop in 30:37, followed closely by teammate Brody Clarke less a minute later (31:17).  Isidore Champagne crossed the line in 32:02 with Alexander Rettegi right behind him at 32:25. Mytchel Carson & Jessie Shaw both finished their race in just over 35 minutes.

Asuncion shaved a minute off his previous best time for his fastest race of the season, while Clarke, Champagne and Rettegi also registered their fastest times of the season.

Head Coach Kevin Beatty was impressed with the team's competitive level for the championship race.  "Running fast times is nice, but it doesn't mean much if we are not beating other team's runners.  Everyone today fought for position and dug deep to hold off competitors" he says. "In particular, Connor, Brody and Isidore all won individual battles to the finish line. Those 3 points were necessary to get into the top 10, as we only beat the next team by 1 point."
