Sean McMurtry

Inducted April 7, 2017

Sean Andrew McMurtry was born in Toronto, Ontario on May 14, 1972.

After living in Calgary, Alberta for most of his life Sean moved back to Ontario and enrolled in the Nursing Program at Loyalist College in 2008. Over the next three seasons Sean would become a fixture with the Men’s Rugby program and serve as team captain all three years. He would garner both individual and team accolades and become one of the most decorated student athletes in Loyalist Lancers’ history.

In the 2008-09 season the Men’s Rugby team won a Silver Medal at the OCAA Division 2 Provincial Championships. Sean was named an OCAA League All-Star, was an OCAA All-Academic Award Recipient and was named his team’s Most Valuable Player. He capped off his Freshman season by being named the College’s Male Athlete of the Year.

The next two seasons saw Sean and his teammates dominate the Division 2 league by going undefeated and winning back to back OCAA Championships. In both Championship seasons Sean was awarded the league’s highest honor when he was named the OCAA Men’s Rugby Player of the Year. He was also named his team’s MVP both seasons and once again recognized as an OCAA All-Academic Award Winner. In the 2009-10 season Sean received the very prestigious Greg Gavin Award and in his final year he was once again named the College’s Male Athlete of the Year.

Sean’s incredible commitment to his studies would see him win several academic scholarships.

In the Spring of 2017 Sean was inducted into the OCAA Sports Hall of Fame.
