LANCERS WIN BATTLE WITH GRIZZLIES

LANCERS WIN BATTLE WITH GRIZZLIES

Missed layups, unforced turnovers and unsuccessful trips to the foul line put the Lancers behind the Georgian Grizzlies 17-9 after the first quarter Friday night in Barrie. Despite the rough start, the now 10-2 Lancers kept their composure and began working their way back into the game. By the end of the half, the team had closed the gap and brought the game within 1 to trail 29-28.

Struggling again in the third, the Lancers fell behind once more before flipping a switch in the fourth and pulling together as a team to get the job done. The Grizzlies continued to put pressure on through the final minutes of the game but the Lancers surged ahead after a key shot from Kadrae Wright

Jeremiah Brown was instrumental off the bench with 23 points and 8 rebounds. He wreaked havoc on the Grizzlies' defence with his ability to get in the paint and use his height to his advantage. Noah Korovesi and Ebenezer Teklezgi both added 12 buckets to the win and Wright contributed 9, all from behind the 3-point line.

Coach Patrick Kabeya was happy with how his team handled the game. "These are the kind of victories that build character. We had a sluggish start but were able to turn things around at the end of the game. It was a great team win on the road and I'm very proud of the team's poise down the stretch."

The next match for the Lancers is a big one as they look for redemption when they take on the Seneca Sting at home on Friday January 24th. Of of the Lancers' two losses on the season, one came at the hands of the Sting back in November and the other against the George Brown Huskies, who the Lancers face again on Saturday February 8th.
