LANCERS LOSE 5 SET HEARTBREAKER

LANCERS LOSE 5 SET HEARTBREAKER

The Lancers fell in heartbreaking fashion in the 5th set of a hard fought game against the George Brown Huskies.

Coming out of the gates strong, the Lancers took the first set 25-22 before finding themselves on the opposite side of the same score in the second. The Huskies battled through the third to come out on top 26-24 that put the Lancers behind 2-1 heading into the fourth set. To push for a 5th set, the Lancers won 25-22 and carried the momentum with them through the fifth. The Lancers held the lead through the switch until the Huskies tied the game at 11. With couple of tough calls late in the game that went against the Lancers, the Huskies took the lead at 14-13 and walked away with a 15-13 win to take the game 3-2.

Despite the loss, the Lancers turned in one of the best performances on serve receive with consistent, precise passes that allowed first year setter, Jeremy Driedger to run a spread out and well executed offense. Matt Bridgeland, a third year middle, passed extremely well on both serve receive and defence while also putting up huge blocks and smart attacks at the net. Team Captain Josh Roberts set a new career high with 23 kills in the match, bettering his previous record of 21 kills set on January 11th, 2019 against the Durham Lords. Alex Cox did a stellar job in libero where he made numerous point saving plays at crucial moments in the game to continue the ball, and give the Lancers a chance to run their offense.

With 3 games left in regulation, the 3-12  Lancers take on the Canadore Panthers at home on Sunday February 2nd before travelling to the Fleming Knights on Wednesday February 9th.
