LANCERS DROP 5 SET HEARTBREAKER

LANCERS DROP 5 SET HEARTBREAKER

The Lancers wound up on the wrong end of a thrilling five-set match to the nationally ranked Durham Lords.

Durham edged Loyalist in the first set 25-22 before the men rallied to win the next two sets 30-28 and 29-27. Durham would come back and win the fourth set 25-19 to force a fifth and deciding set. The Lancers then would get off to a quick 3-0 start but would fall 15-13 in the last set.

The second set saw both teams came out hot right out of the gate as they were trading points throughout the whole set. Both sides would engage in friendly fire missing serves early on before finally, the Lancers would break the spell with solid play allowing them to pull away with the second set 30-28.

The momentum the Lancers gained from the second carried on into the third set. Although both teams traded service errors early on, the Lancers seemed to be in control throughout most of the set. Loyalist would end taking the third set in another close fashion 27-25.

The Lords would comfortably take the fourth set 25-19, forcing the fifth and final set.

The fifth and final set was oh so close but in the end, the Lords would come away with a 15-13 victory. However, the Lancers would put up a great fight as they had the lead early on but a few unforced errors would help the Lords capitalize and get the better of the Lancers.

Fourth-year Lancer Josh Roberts was a force at the net by scoring 17 kills and recording 2 service aces for 19 total points. First-year left side Riley Litwiller also was a force at the net by scoring 14 kills, 1 service ace and leading the team with an incredible 5 blocks. Caleb Seguin finished with 12 kills and Andrew Hudgins finished with 8 kills.

The Lancers continue to push for a playoff position as it's coming down to crunch time. Your Lancers will have a busy weekend as they will travel to play Centennial on Saturday afternoon, then will have a quick turn around as they will host the La Cite Coyotes on Sunday afternoon.
