LANCERS EARN FIRST VICTORY OF THE SEASON

LANCERS EARN FIRST VICTORY OF THE SEASON

The women's basketball team earned their first win of the season with a 55-30 win over the Georgian Grizzlies in Barrie Saturday evening.

After dropping their season opener against the George Brown Huskies in Toronto earlier in the week, the Lancers have put in major work at practices to prepare for the Grizzles and get to themselves in the win column.

The Lancers got off to a slow start and trailed the Grizzlies by 1 at the end of the first quarter but worked their way to a 2 point lead at the half. Looking like an entirely different team in the second half, the Lancers lit it up and outscored the Grizzlies 35-12 to push to a 55-30 win.

Veteran athlete but first year Lancer, Taylor Blair scored a game high 18 points with 6 rebounds, while first year Lancer Kate Raso contributed 7 steals, 8 rebounds and 8 points.

Head Coach Caleb Hugh is pleased with how his team executed during the game. "We focused on disrupting the Grizzlies offense with ball pressure defense and it payed big dividends for us in the second half. No matter which 5 athletes were on the floor, they played great team basketball. The team worked really hard in practices this week and it showed in the way they performed on the court today."

The Lancers will look to make it two in a row when they host the Algonquin Thunder in their home opener on Friday November 2nd.
