LANCERS EARN VICTORY ON THE ROAD

LANCERS EARN VICTORY ON THE ROAD

The Lancers struggled out of the gates Friday night in Barrie but managed to turn things around in the second half to pull out a 58-37 win.

The Georgian Grizzlies played strong through the first quarter with intensity, dominant rebounding and plenty of hustle while the Lancers struggled to find their offensive stride. Getting progressively better as the game went on, the Lancers held the lead for the majority of the second quarter, ending with a 28-24 hold at the half.

The Lancers took to the court in the third  with a renewed energy and sense of urgency on the game. First year Lancer Frances Ginette made 4 hustle plays that provided a much needed spark for the Lancers while fellow first year, Andrea Salazar forced 4 turnovers down the stretch. Veteran player Brittany Mason had yet another stellar performance, turning in 22 points while second year Kate Raso contributed 16 points and an impressive 8 steals. In her first game back from injury, Ayana Tomlinson showed off her signature defence with 7 boards and 4 steals.

"Georgian played very hungry in the first part of the game" said Head Coach, Caleb Hugh. "At half, we stressed the importance of our team owning the ball to create our own opportunities." The Lancers outsored the Grizzlies 30-14 in the second half, earning their way to the 21 point victory.

"Frances stepped up for us in the second half and made a number of tough plays and Andrea  proved that she can make big time plays at both ends of the court. Plus, it was great having Ayana back in the lineup, her defensive abilities were greatly missed."

Next up, the Lancers play host to the Seneca Sting on Friday January 24th at 6pm at home.
