Lancers get redemption over Lords in 54-44 win to kick off second semester.
The Loyalist Lancers women's basketball team started the new year on a high note, defeating the Durham Lords 54-44 in their first game back from the winter break. The Lancers were led by standout performances from Kayley Lemaire, who recorded a game-high 18 points and 9 rebounds, and Grace Callahan, who dominated the boards 17 rebounds and 8 points.
Loyalist's defense was the cornerstone of their success, forcing 33 turnovers and converting them into 20 points. Their dominance on the glass was evident, out-rebounding Durham 42-27 and scoring 18 second-chance points compared to Durham's 2. Jessyka Maliksi contributed 8 points, including a clutch three-pointer, while Brooklynn White provided a spark off the bench with 8 points and 7 rebounds.
The Lancers took control early, leading 14-9 after the first quarter and maintaining a narrow edge at halftime, 26-22. A strong third quarter saw Loyalist pull away, outscoring Durham 13-9, and they sealed the victory with a balanced attack in the final frame.
With the win, the Lancers improved to 7-2 on the season, showcasing their resilience and teamwork as they aim to carry this momentum into the remainder of the season.
The team returns home for a double-header weekend when they host the Seneca Sting on Saturday, January 18th and the Georgian Grizzlies on Sunday, January 19th.
