LANCERS GO 1-1 IN DAY 1 OF EAST/WEST CROSSOVER

The Lancers went 1-1 in the OCAA East/West Crossover hosted by Fleming College in Peterborough on Saturday.

First up for the Lancers were the undefeated Humber Hawks. With an 8-0 record on the season, the Hawks sit atop the OCAA West division.

The Lancers started the game strong, moving the ball well and maintaining possession through the first two minutes.  The Hawks then capitalized on a Lancer error and ran the ball into the end zone for their first try. The Lancers came back tough and made a series of nice passes until the Hawks intercepted and secured their second try.
Continuing to battle right though to the final play of the game, second year Lancer Taylor LaPierre scored the team's only try and Hanna Fitzgerald booted a successful convert to bring the final score to 45-7 for the Hawks.

In their second match of the day the Lancers faced off against the 1-7 Sheridan Bruins. The Lancers had control of the game right from the start and maintained it for the full 14 minutes. Third year Lancer Lola Akindolire opened the scoring for her team with a hard fought try through traffic, followed closely by fellow veteran Rachel Streekstra to go up 12-5. Akindolire and Olivia Garrett added a try in the second half while Hanna Fitzgerald contributed a try and a convert to the 25-7 decision.

The Lancers take on the Conestoga Condors at 11 AM and Seneca Sting at 1:30 PM on Sunday in day two of competition.
