The women's volleyball teams travelled to the Nation's Capital over the weekend for back to back games against the Algonquin Thunder and La Cite Coyotes.
Facing off against a strong Algonquin Thunder team Saturday night, the Lancers had a tough battle ahead of them and dropped the 1st set 25-13. Looking to steal a victory in set 2, the Lancers came back with hard hits and tough serves but weren't quite able to shut down the Thunder's strong offence, falling 25-19. The Thunder carried the momentum through the third and closed out the game in straight sets.
Second year Lancer Rachel Cole stepped in as Libero and provided smart defence and effective serve receive passing that kept her team in the game.
The Lancers looked to bounce back on Sunday when they took on the La Cite Coyotes.
In a positive change of pace from Saturday, the Lancers came out on top in the first set with a 25-20 victory to take the early 1-0 set lead. The Coyotes answered back, winning the second and third sets 25-19 to overtake the lead and put pressure on the Lancers in the fourth. To force a 5th and final set, the Lancers took set 4 with the largest point spread of the day, 25-14 but fell just shy in the 5th, falling 15-13 to lose the game 3-2.
Having transitioned into the middle position, Ashley Macdonald was dominant at the net and made an immediate impact with five blocks and a total of 13 points to tie with teammate Aingele Campbell Stewart for leading scorer.
The Lancers look to get back in the win column when they take on the Georgian Grizzlies Saturday November 23rd at home.
