LANCER XC COMPETES IN LOCAL EVENTS

The Loyalist cross-country team has continued their regular season with two recent races. The team first travelled to Kingston to compete on the classic course at Fort Henry in the Kingston Roadrunners 5k.  Ryan Bilton (Lombardy, ON) led the Lancers over the rolling grass hills course and won his age group with a time of 18:32. Nicolas Williamson (Parry Sound, ON) put forth a brave effort while competing through illness to clock a time of 23:14.  Nicole Flynn (Belleville, ON) was the lone female athlete in 42:40.

The next week had the team on the road again to Ottawa for the Capital XC Challenge.  The 6k course presented a mix of challenges for runners, combining grass, beach and track surfaces with 2 steep hills and 11 hay bale hurdle jumps.  Flynn had her best finish of the year at 51:33 and was preceded to the line by Alexis Blyth (Brantford, ON) in 38:11.  In the men's race Bilton also had his best race of the year (22:13), competing well against a field comprised of mostly university and club athletes.

Thanksgiving weekend provides a competitive break before the regular season finale at Centennial College on Oct 19th and the OCAA Championships Oct 26th in Windsor.
