X-Country Team Sets New Personal Bests
October 5, 2024
The cross-country season continued Saturday at the Fanshawe Invitational in London, ON. Ideal conditions and a flat, fast course made for a perfect opportunity to set new personal bests, and that is what many Lancers achieved.
Cassandra Elliott once again had the top individual finish in the women's 6k race, placing 16th overall in 26:56. She was followed by Roya Shafai in 27th (28:47) and Bianca Rainville in 37th (31:05). All three women were significantly faster than the previous week.
The men had similar improvements, with all six competitors recording faster times than last week. The first three finishers recorded lifetime personal bests over the 8k distance – Robert Leybourne (32nd, 30:55), Jessie Shaw (35th, 31:24) and Alexander Rettegi (38th, 32:18). Strong running by this trio, combined with Soroush Danesh in 54th overall, elevated Loyalist to a 7th place overall finish in the team standings.
Athletes will get another chance to hone their racing skills at the Centennial Invitational on October 12th in Scarborough.
