Greg Gavin

Greg Gavin worked at Loyalist College for 34 years, 32 of those years as the Director of Athletics. During this time he was always a voice of reason around the OCAA and always thought of the student athlete first.  He put what was best for the Association ahead of his own College’s needs and was a tireless worker to always make things fair for all participating schools.

Greg sat on the OCAA Executive from 1979-1981 in the role of treasurer and was a convenor for Men’s and Women’s Volleyball on several occasions.  Greg had a vision to build a small college into a well recognized and respected college on both the Provincial and National levels. Under his guidance he built one of the best volleyball programs in the Country.  From 1986 to 2003 Greg either coached or managed the Men’s Volleyball team that won seven Ontario titles and brought home three medals from the National Championships.

Greg always stressed academics first and Loyalist was one of the first colleges to have a strict academic policy for its student athletes.  He took a small college with limited resources and built a highly respected program.
