Joey Martins

Joey Martins was a dominant force from the first second he set foot on the volleyball court at Loyalist College.  During the two seasons he was a member of the Loyalist Lancers Volleyball team he tasted nothing but success both individually and from a team perspective.  From 2001-2003 Martins helped to lead his team to two straight seasons where the Lancers did not lose to another OCAA team in league or championship play.  Loyalist won two consecutive East Division titles and back to back OCAA gold medals.  At the National level Loyalist captured a bronze and a silver medal.

Joey was a two time OCAA Championship All-Star, an OCAA scoring champion, a two time CCAA All-Canadian and was twice named to the CCAA first team all-stars at the National Championships.  In addition Joey was twice named the team’s MVP, twice named Loyalist College Athlete of the Year and in his final year at Loyalist was recognized as the OCAA Athlete of the Year.  He was also an all-star or MVP in every tournament that the Lancers played in.  In addition to volleyball Joey was also a standout forward on our Men’s Soccer team.

After graduating from Loyalist College, Joey took his talent to Alberta where he played two more years at Red Deer College.  During this time he received many team and individual accolades.  In 2005 Martins was selected to Team Canada International University Sports Federation and in 2007 played professionally in Portugal Division 1.
