Larry Cook

Inducted April 2, 2015

Larry Allan Cook was born in Kingston Ontario on August 3, 1955. He started his twenty seven year teaching career at Loyalist in 1985. The majority of these years saw Larry involved with our Varsity Program serving as either a Head or Assistant Coach with seven different teams. Larry’s versatility and incredible knowledge on fitness and sports made him a valuable resource to the athletics department.

He accumulated over 20 OCAA Medals including nine Gold and won three CCAA National Medals. In addition to his team titles, Larry coached several Cross Country runners that won individual OCAA Championships some of who went on to medal at the CCAA Nationals.  Larry was the Head Coach of our Men’s Hockey, Men’s and Women’s Rugby, Badminton and Cross Country teams. In addition, he served as an Assistant Coach with both our Volleyball teams. Rugby and Cross Country running were two sports that Larry had an incredible passion for and built programs that were respected across the Province. He was responsible for the first ever Rugby Provincial Championships at the College level in the late 1980’s. At that time the Championships were sponsored by the Ontario Rugby Union. Larry coached the Lancers to two straight titles. When Rugby became an official OCAA sport Larry returned to the sideline and put together an amazing run winning a Division Two Silver medal followed by three straight Division Two Provincial titles. During these years 2009-2012 under Larry’s guidance the Lancers did not lose a single game. He was named Coach of The Year on four different occasions.

After retiring from the College in 2012, Larry continued with his fundraising efforts with many local charities. His commitment to our students was amazing and will be missed.
