Peter Williams

Inducted April 7, 2017

Peter Richard Williams was born in Picton, Ontario on February 4, 1965.

Peter started his 30-year career in the Athletics Department at Loyalist College in 1986. During this time, he would have a profound impact on an incredible number of students. His willingness to help our students under any circumstance was a quality that set him apart from others. Whether it was with a quick joke or some fatherly advice, he always found a way to make a student’s day better.

Peter was a member of the Women’s Softball Coaching staff for several years and helped guide the team to an OCAA Bronze Medal in 1989. His passion for sports and coaching was not limited to the ball diamond. He was heavily involved with the Belleville Bearcats Girls Hockey program for many years where he was instrumental in helping several of his players receive NCAA scholarships. He also started up and coached a very successful extramural women’s hockey program at the College.

While his impact indoors was profound, it was out in nature where Peter truly thrived. In his years at Loyalist, he became a prominent figure with our outdoor education program. His knowledge and passion for the outdoors made him a natural leader on the countless number of trips he guided. Whether it was climbing to the peak of Mount Marcy or canoeing in the back country of Algonquin Park, Peter always helped the students learn new skills and accomplish their goals, all the while making it fun and special for everyone involved. As a result, many of our students who had no experience in the outdoors became lifelong enthusiasts. Peter was well respected by his colleagues and left an incredible mark during his time at Loyalist College. There’s no doubt that Peter’s passion for all things Athletics earned him the respect of his colleagues. However, it’s the effect of his dedication, work ethic and good nature on 30 years of students that truly leaves a legacy with the Loyalist Lancers.
