GOLFERS SAVED BEST FOR LAST

GOLFERS SAVED BEST FOR LAST

The Lancers golf team saved the best for last in their inaugural season in the OCAA.

After competing in three invitational tournaments across the province in September with mixed results, all 5 golfers who competed at the Provincial Championships in Windsor October 2-4th, played their best rounds of the season.

Rorey Kehoe was the top golfer for the team, having turning in his best scores of the year on the Provincial stage. Kehoe finished the three-day tournament tied for 26th after shooting an 87 in round one, 77 on the second and 79 on the third to move up the ranks 7 spots over the course of the tournament.

Zach Slaven and Elliott Villeneuve also turned in their season's best performances during the championships. Slaven shot an 87, 82 and 80 to come in at 41st spot with a 254 total score while Villeneuve scored an 89, 87 and 79. With those scores, he moved up the ranks 5 spots to finish tied at 42 and on over total of 255.

Ben Fehr held his own throughout the tournament with his best rounds coming on Monday and Wednesday where he shot an 88.

One of only 8 female golfers competing in the OCAA, Kate Maxwell showed the biggest improvements in the team and set personal bests. After shooting 119 on round 1, which was 10 strokes better than her previous score on the same course, Maxwell came back on day two with another 10-shot improvement for a score of 109 on rounds 2 and 3.

Maxwell was also the recipient of the OCAA Fair play award for her determination, supportive nature, and good sportsmanship.

Head Coach Marc Ray says the experience was wonderful for the athletes and is excited about the direction the program is moving. "Our athletes played really great this week" he says. "They learned a lot about playing in the heat and on a fast course, but they also made connections with their peers and showed huge improvements in their game. It was a tremendous tournament all around".

With the season in the books, the Lancers will take a well-deserved break to recover from such a quick season before getting back into the swing of things and preparing for next year.
