LANCERS ADD TWO TO ROSTER

LANCERS ADD TWO TO ROSTER

Loyalist College and the Lancers have added two new recruits to their men's volleyball program for the upcoming 2020-21 season.

Cody Beals ,a libero and outside hitter standing at 5'11, joins the Lancers via Westgate High School in his hometown of Thunder Bay, Ontario. Playing for both the junior varsity and senior varsity teams at Westgate, he received numerous awards along the way. Most recently, in 2019 Beal received the Westgate Male Athlete of the Year and an academic excellence award from Lakehead School Board. During his time with Westgate, he was named team captain every year and helped them go undefeated in the 2019 regular season.

Beals' impressive resume does not stop there. He has played for numerous club teams and has been successful with all of them. From 2015-2018 he played for the Titans Volleyball Club, of which he was captain for two years. Following that, he joined the Superior North Volleyball Club for another two seasons. With the Titans his team captured the 2019 Minnesota North Country Region Tournament Championship.

Beals will be studying Recreation and Leisure Services at Loyalist College in the fall. "I chose Loyalist because I like how the school is small and it makes me feel more comfortable. Also, the Recreation and Leisure program is a hands-on program which was intriguing to me. Lastly, their volleyball program at Loyalist is all about team spirit, which is very important to me."

Joining Beals for the 2020-2021 season is fellow outside hitter, Joshua Vreugdenhill who joins the Lancers via Quinte Christian High school.  The 6'1 Belleville native played volleyball throughout high school and helped Quinte Christian go to OFSAA multiple times. Vreugdenhil's club experience includes playing for Pegasus Volleyball in Kingston, ON before it's amalgamation to the Kingston Rock for the 2019-2020 season.

Vreugdenhil will be studying Civil Engineering Technology in the fall. "I chose Loyalist because its close to home and I'm able to pursue playing volleyball in college. Also, Coach Jenkins and the team were all very welcoming when I went on my visit, which allowed me to become comfortable with Loyalist."

With a solid group of returning athletes from the 2019-2020 season, Coach Jenkins and his staff are well on their way having all the pieces to continue building on their success.
