LANCERS CONTINUE TO GROW

In a season filled with impressive wins and unfortunate losses, the Loyalist Lancers women's basketball team continued to develop a core that looks poised to take the OCAA by storm in the following years. The Lancers managed to put together a 6-10 regular-season record and claim the final seed in the OCAA East Division playoffs. The opening round meeting with the top-ranked Fanshawe Falcons proved too much, as the Falcons pulled out a 92-54 victory at home.

For the second straight season, Brittany Mason continued to tear up her competition by posting an impressive 16.3 points-per-game and adding a remarkable 9.3 rebounds-per-game. With her near double-double season average, Mason was named to the OCAA Women's Basketball East Division Second-Team All-Star squad. Playing in 16 games, and averaging nearly 34 minutes per game, Mason collected 1.3 steals per game and 2.1 assists per game. Mason's career game came against Centennial College, where she scored 36 points, grabbed 13 boards, with just playing 33 minutes. Throughout the season, Mason managed seven double-doubles, and 15 games with double-figures in scoring, including 13 games with a 10-point or more streak.

In the backcourt, Kate Raso continued her dominant play for the Lancers in her second season with the squad. Raso averaged a team-high 16.5 points-per-game, 4.7 rebounds-per-game, and 2.5 assists-per-game while collecting 2.2 steals-per-game. Raso career game came against Seneca College, where she scored 28 points, grabbed 3 boards, and adding 7 assists while playing 37 minutes.

"I was pretty pleased with the season," said Head Coach Caleb Hugh. "I credit our group for staying committed throughout the season no matter what was thrown at them. We demanded a lot from them in practices as well as put together a tough exhibition schedule. With eight 1st year Lancers on the team, we had a lot of learning to do, especially early on. It took a while for us to establish chemistry but by the second semester we started to see the women improve not only individually but as a collective unit."

With Coach Hugh at the helm, the Lancers have shown great promise and will continue to be a force in a tough east division for many years to come.
