LANCER FALL SHORT OF MEDAL

LANCER FALL SHORT OF MEDAL

Bouncing back after a tough loss in the semi finals, the Lancers got off to a great start and took an early 7-0 lead over the Seneca Sting in the OCAA bronze medal match. The Sting answered back quickly with a try and convert of their own to tie the game going into the half.

With both teams leaving everything on the field, the second half of the game was a true battle. The Sting scored again to take the lead, forcing the Lancers to play catch up. Despite tough, aggressive play and coming within a few feet of scoring, the Lancers ran out of time and fell 14-7.

Second year Lancer Rachelle Malette was named player of the game.

The Lancers went 8-4 in regular season and played every game with pride, determination and heart. Coach Ken Fitzgerald has a tremendous amount of admiration for his athletes.  "I am so impressed with our recruiting class this year, not only from a skill standpoint, but with how well they meshed with the returning athletes. They quickly adapted to our 7's system and although we couldn't capture a medal this time around it's still was one of our most successful seasons. Finishing third in the league is a respectable place and all the hard work has gained our program a lot of respect around the league." Despite losing the bronze medal, Coach Fitzgerald knows the program is on the right path. "The loss stings right now, but it's going to be motivation for everyone to work harder in the off season to keep our program moving in the right direction."
