LANCERS TAKE DOWN COUGARS 3-0

The women's soccer team secured their first win of the season with a solid 3-0 victory over the Sault College Cougars in Sault Ste. Marie.

The Lancers dominated the match, outscoring the home team 17-1 while veteran Lancer keeper Emilie Mealing recorded 1 save on the day.

First year Lancer Kalysta Bullis (Trenton, ON) opened the scoring at the 29-minute mark with her first goal of the season. The team maintained a 1-0 lead through the half until Kendall Mock (Cobourg, ON) buried her first goal of the season off a great pass from Kellee Smith (Belleville, ON). 5 minutes later, returning player Jenna-Mae Oickle (Belleville, ON) added one of her own with an unassisted goal to finish out the match 3-0.

The win marks the first for the team's Head Coach, Derek Arsenault, who took over the helm in the off-season.  "This was the best outcome for a game full of lessons for us" Arsenault says of the win. "We stayed within ourselves and played our own game. The lessons in the match were big for us and we're excited to go back home with the win".

A pair of local stars from Brighton, ON, Lauren Molenhuis and team captain Christine Vandertoorn, provided leadership and great support in the back while Smith, Chloe Spelmer (Belleville, ON) and Brooke Balson (Bowmanville, ON) all turned in solid performances in the win.

The Lancers now sit 1-2 on the season with their next match coming up on Wednesday September 20th on the road against the Fleming Phoenix.
